• Notice to SACAP
o The PIA has forwarded a letter on behalf of our membership, drafted by Isia Ortner, President of the PIA, to SACAP with regards the 9% increase in registration fees. The following were strongly recommended:
o That the ongoing dire economic situation of the Architectural Profession be considered
o That the current additional strain caused by the COVID-19 crisis and lockdown be considered
o That the fact that there has been no updated fee scale since 2015 be considered
o Considering all of the above, which is only a few factors to mention, SACAP reconsider and waive the increase.
o The PIA will keep you informed with regards this matter.
• City of Tshwane Building Control Matters
o A letter was forwarded to Mr Modise Maimane, Divisional Head : Build Environment & Enforcement, following claims received from members that majority of the Building Control Offices in Tshwane were closed since last week.
o We requested that they issue a MEMO which we can forward to our membership relating to the following matters:
Will the staff take the building/SDP files home with them and clear the tremendous backlog.
Will the staff give telephonic or e-mail feedback to the professionals who’s claims have been scrutinised during this period?
Some sort of directive may help our members to report back to their clients.
Opening and closing dates and the way forward will be greatly appreciated.
o We also stated that the PIA has been relentless in stating the importance of an electronic submission system for more than four years already. It is clear for all to see that, at times such as these, had this process been implemented, the building control officers could have continued the approval processes remotely.
o We look forward to hear from them and will keep you informed with this matter.
• ONLINE CPD
o The PIA has ONLINE CPD at your fingertips… we are uploading new CPD sessions continuously.
o Members and Non-members can access this information.
o This is maybe the time to catch up or ensure you stay ahead of the game.
