Jenna Burchell – Designing For Memory
Jenna Burchell is an award winning South African artist who is driven to find ways to preserve the fragile and ephemeral nature of memory and experience. Burchell

often fuses the digital with the natural world in order to create vessels, archives and libraries wherein the historical is subverted with narratives from the periphery. Burchell’s process is project based and stochastic, it allows function and relational aesthetics to direct the physical formation of her work. This often results in sculptural sound objects and large-scale interactive environments in which the audience must be present. People, communities and places are rooted in the essence of her practice.

Burchell has a permanent outdoor sound installation that forms part of her international project titled Songsmith, resident at the Spier Wine Estate in Stellenbosch, South Africa (2018). She is currently (2020-2022) working on a large-scale public memorial at the Sarah Baartman Center of Memory in the Eastern Cape.

Ali Sadiq – DREAMS, Diagrams + to-do lists
I am a dreamer, I invest plenty of my time in my imagination, I sketch and write a lot since I was a kid.
I can’t say that I travel much, although I’m hardly at home anywhere. I was born in Baghdad, Iraq, my family moved to Amman, Jordan before jetting off to Gaborone, Botswana where I spent a good part of my childhood, I studied and worked in Pretoria, South Africa and I find myself (on account of the pandemic) in Muscat, Oman. Since the pandemic I’ve entered into my 30s and I’m learning new things about life away from the promise of a career in a traditional sense.
In Oman I am reunited with my family and culture after two decades of studying then working abroad, since my return I have been able to give some attention to my personal to-do list.

Kim Fairbairn – Desert Tango Fandangos
Far, and sometimes very close to tomfoolery, desert fandango experiences seem to range from gut-wrenching endeavours to heart-exploding raptures, and everything else in between, all before lunchtime…
He is one of 3 ‘artists’ and a crew who conceived, designed, and built The San Clan and Tree of Stories ‘artworks’ for the Elastic-Kraal Art Burning Test, aka AfrikaBurn 2022, Tankwa Town, ZA. The project took two and a half years from start to, well, not finished, because it proposes ongoing interventions by other artists who will use one of the works as a platform for their works (fandangos).
Kim has practiced architecture and property development management for 30+ years in the default world and is heading to the Red Sea soon to expand into those horizons.

Morné Pienaar – The Making of a Type
Morné Pienaar is a distiller, an amateur archeologist, a father, a Sea Sheppard ambassador, a serial coffee lover and a heavy metal fan. As an endurance biking enthusiast, he participated in extreme motorcycling events.
He also happens to be an architect. At heart, he is an artist and believes in architecture as a material art and, in the original definition of architecture, constitutes the poetic act of making.
